How to Spot a Bad Moving Service

Don’t be a victim of a fly-by-night moving service. Do your homework and you will surely have the most hassle-free moving experience. Before you hire a moving company, you might as well first check the following:

• Registration Number – are they registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration? Every local moving company should have a US Department of Transportation Number. Otherwise, stay away from them.
• Estimates and Rates – when asking for estimates and rates, be keen enough to understand their charges. Is it per hour, per pound, or per distance? What are the other fees? If you are unsure about the quotes you receive, ask them to explain them to you. A good service provider will be more than happy to help you understand where every dollar goes.
• Subcontractors – find out if the company is using subcontractors. This is quite common especially for big companies as they subcontract some requests to the smaller ones. If possible, ask more details about this and do a little background check on these third-party providers.
